What You Should Do to Help Solve Your Child's Sleep Problem
Being parents of an infant or an older child can sometimes seem like the hardest job in the world. The word exhaustion does not even begin to express how tiring it can get sometimes if you have to deal with a child that has a sleep problem. You may even often question your own ability as a parent. The worst feeling in the world is having to hear your child cry nonstop when he cannot be calmed with a touch, a bottle or a new diaper. Sleep walking, sleep talking, bed wetting, night terrors and head banging are common child sleep disorders. A child that has night terrors usually sits up with his eyes wide open, with a look of fear and panic, and lets out blood curdling screams. Night terrors may also make a child sweat, breath faster and have a rapid heart rate. Parents become deeply concerned and may feel completely frustrated and depressed. Some children may wake up and bang their heads on their cribs or vigorously rock themselves to sleep. Infants and toddlers are more likely to bang their head when they're teething or suffering from an ear infection. Head banging apparently helps them feel better, perhaps by distracting them from the discomfort in their mouth or ear. You may drive yourself crazy trying to figure out why your child is demonstrating such behavior. But its really not your fault if you cant figure out whats wrong. You should get help from a professional and try and visit a sleep hospital or center close to your house. You may be one of the lucky parents whose child sleeps all night. However, if your child is crying all night, dont ignore the problem assuming that its an attention seeking gimmick. A child who cries constantly all night is trying to indicate to his parents that something is wrong. Try and look for any clues that can help you understand your childs baffling behavior. Medical conditions that can cause sleep problems in children are the lack of nutrition in the diet as well as the lack of exercise. Some children may not become hungry on a regular schedule. However, as a parent, you need to make sure that your child is given a well balanced diet at regular intervals in a day. Do not let your child go to bed without having eaten, otherwise your child might sleep himself right into a migraine, which can start as soon as he feels the hunger pangs or his blood sugar is low.
